glacier + volcano

A quick glimpse of my hike on Mýrdalsjökull glacier in the south of Iceland.

You may notice a lot of black areas around on the ice, which is ash - the icecap of the glacier covers an active volcano named Katla. It could have erupted at any moment covering me in ash as well ;)

Mýrdalsjökull is the 4th largest glacier in Iceland and is full of deep crevasses due to a high volume of water that flows under it - both scary and breathtaking!

The feeling of leaving the modern day cement jungle and grounding yourself with raw nature is such an amazing feeling and unfortunately one that happens far too little for me. If you make it to Iceland (which I highly recommend) definitely check out the southern tip, where some of the most beautiful natural creations live. I can’t wait to go back and be a bit more adventuresome next time.

silica + spa

A glimpse of my time spent at the Blue Lagoon in Iceland. It was beyond one of those surrealistic experiences. I was sitting there thinking “I’m in Iceland. Surrounded by lava rocks. In 100 degree water on a 30 degree day. What is my life about? And how did I get so lucky?”

The Blue Lagoon website explains best why this geothermal spa is such a wonder…
“The Blue Lagoon geothermal seawater is a part of an ecocycle where nature and science work in harmony. The seawater originates 2000 meter/6562 ft beneath the ground where it is heated by earth’s natural forces. At this depth the temperature is 240°C/464°F and the pressure is 36 times the pressure on the earth’s surface. The geothermal seawater comes into contact with cooling magmatic intrusions and captures the earth’s minerals, resulting in this unique natural source known for its healing power and actives. “

dottir + son

The last name of an Icelander is not what we consider a “family” name. They don’t have the same last name as their father [and mother]. Instead, it is their father’s first name with “son” or “dottir” added to the end. For example my name would be Alicia Williamdottir. Interesting, huh? Kind of weird to not have the same name as your family - although “weird” is all relative anyway.

clever + cards

Thinking that my west coast belongings would for sure get to the east coast before a networking event I had planned, my business cards were safely packed away in my “office” box. But as life goes, it’s a day away from the event and my [every]things are still in Los Angeles. Since I need to make up some cards fast, I started looking around online for some inspiration. In a day, I can’t get anything too exciting, but it’s still fun to dream of people’s awe-worthy looks when I hand them my oh-so-clever cards. Well, maybe for next time. Here are some of my favorites…
